Heart of a Coach

Apart from life on a farm, competitive sports was a powerful influence in Dennis’s life. He grew up a competitive athlete in the three main sports:  football, basketball, and baseball. Receiving a basketball scholarship, he went on to play community college basketball for two years. Second only to his parents, he credits coaches as having a lasting impact on his life as a young man.

In team sports, Dennis’s coaches deeply instilled character, determination, discipline, and a commitment to the team to accomplish a common goal. During his years as a young parent, he coached 5 sons through t-ball to high school baseball.

Today, Dennis uses his love for coaching to inspire those same principles of Godly character, faithful determination, sacrificial self-discipline, and a commitment to the most important team on the earth today: the family.

DECADES AGO, THE SKILLS TO BUILD A HEALTHY FAMILY WERE CONSIDERED MORE COMMON SENSE.

For instance, the principles needed to lead a family, to love a spouse, and to raise godly children, used to be passed down from generation to generation within the culture and in the home. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case.

Disfunction and division are widely accepted and passed down as the “norm” from one generation to the next.

  • Broken marriages

  • Rebellious teenagers

  • Parents who find their children annoying

  • Children who find their parents irrelevant

  • Siblings who can’t stand each other

  • Christian families who look nothing like Christ
